While it’s wonderful to see the sun and evidence of a true spring, it also means the beginning of allergy season for many people. This year particularly, after a heavy dose of snow and cold, plenty of lawns are showing the effects with snow mold. New blooms and emerging growth of plants sends spring allergy season into full swing.
CBHC is letting their patients know that people suffering from allergies can experience itching, swelling, pressure, dizziness and tinnitus and even hearing loss due to allergic reactions. Fortunately for most people these are temporary conditions but still create grief for those suffering their effects. Those people who already wear hearing aids need to pay attention to keeping them clean and free from wax. This is particularly important for allergy sufferers.
Allergies can impact the three major sections of your ears, the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. Swelling, fluid buildup and a blocked Eustachian tube can all result in moderate to severe hearing loss due to allergies. Never put objects in your outer ear canal to relieve itching. When you experience symptoms of hearing loss or ear canal issues, you need to schedule an appointment with the Doctors of Audiology at CBHC to receive a professional diagnosis and treatment plan.
Seasonal allergies can take some of the enjoyment out of the wonderful spring time season. Most of the time, allergy misery, including any reduction in hearing, is temporary. Normal hearing usually returns after your effects of allergies subside. If any symptoms persist past your other allergy symptoms or if you experience ear pain, call Columbia Basin Hearing Center to make sure you receive proper diagnosis and treatment.
One major caution: CBHC wants you to know that any sudden hearing loss should be treated as a medical emergency. If the hearing loss is sensorineural in nature, there is a small window of opportunity to treat the condition with medication to attempt to save the hearing. If you have Sudden Hearing loss, immediately call CBHC and tell the person answering your call what your concern is and every effort will be made to see you as a patient that day.
